Before the largest paid crowd for any wrestling show in the ECW Arena since December 2001's Cage of Death 3 (and the largest independent crowd in Philadelphia overall, since the Ring of Honor Final Battle 2003 show featuring All Japan talent), CZW returned to the ECW Arena last night for its marathon "Cage of Death 6: Dual Dimension", starting ON TIME and lasting until 1:20 am.
The crowd was estimated at 1,000, well beyond the pre-show estimates of many fans, including this writer; with fans still entering the building into the third match. Several with the promotion confirmed the crowd as being the largest for CZW since Cage of Death 3.
Many in the crowd saw this show as the promotion's best show to date from top to bottom, with the only possible exception being the Heavyweight Title match that had problems from the get-go, because of the build-up of the match and the odd situation with the CZW Heavyweight Title, which badly needs a renewal and some re-setting in 2005.
The atmosphere inside the ECW Arena was what a Cage of Death should be...part yearly Holiday reunion of wrestling fans, with some fans came from as far away as Japan and Australia to this show...and part spectacle.
Here are the results:
Dark matches
In a two ring battle royal that included (among others) Jon Dahmer, DJ Hyde, Derek Frazier, Cory Kastle, Niles Young, GQ, Sean Bishop, and the returning Nick Berk, Derek Frazier won
In an undercard IWS match, Kid Kamikaze (with Elsa Bangz) defeated Beef Wellington
Cage of Death 6: Dual Dimension results
All Money is Legal defeated Heretic, Spyral, and Ghost Shadow
Erick Stevens and Roderick Strong defeated Alex Shelley and the returning Jonny Storm
In a CHIKARA trios match, Blackjack Marsciano, "Sweet and Sour" Larry Sweeny and Hallowicked defeated Mike Quackenbush, Gran Akuma, and Jigsaw with Marsicano pinning Gran Akuma
The one sick spot of the match saw a three way crossing tope suicida, with Jigsaw and Ultramantis crossing over each other, and Quackenbush jumping over both of them simultaneously, all hitting their respective opposition. It was quite a sight. Blackjack got the pin over Ultramantis.
Sonjay Dutt defeated MDogg 20 in the Loser Leave CZW match. This one had false finishes galore, including a series where Dutt hit a Phoenix Splash and went for the pinfall, when Hanson came down, and pulled out the ref leading to Justice Pain coming down and giving Dutt a Pain Thriller, teasing a finish (Heaven knows where this is going, although Hanson did have a TNA try-out), this was followed by Nick Gage later coming in M-Dogg with a Chokebreaker.
Post-match, Sonjay Dutt was given a new CZW Junior Heavyweight Title belt and made references to the Internet rumors that had him leaving CZW for TNA Whatever he may have said, there weren't "rumors" when two Philadelphia indies suddenly set up Loser Leave stips involving TNA talent (Sonjay Dutt in CZW and Chris Sabin in 3PW) in consecutive weeks.
B-Boy defeated Dan Maff to win the finals of the Xtreme Strong Style Tournament that had taken place throughout 2004.
After the match, Hero came out to do a run-in, but Zandig demanded he defend his CZW Ironman Title on the spot.
B-Boy then defeated Chris Hero to become the new CZW Ironman Champion.
In an off the charts match, Super Dragon and Excalibur defeated Kevin Steen and El Generico. Along with the sick spots, lots more were teased, including teased the turnbuckle brainbuster almost throughout the match until El Generico finally hit the spot, they teased every damned thing possible, and were just brutal with each other.
Post-match, Kevin Steen beat down El Generico and nailed him with a Package Piledriver. Super Dragon and Excalibur cut him off, only to beat him down themselves with Super Dragon putting Generico's head in a chair, giving him a Curb Stomp off the top rope which sounded sickening noise. This was then followed by Super Dragon going into full dickahead heel mode, as he "pinned" El Generico with Excalibur counting the "pinfall".
In a Ladders and Scaffold match, Messiah defeated Flash and Kaos in the one match of the evening that had clusterfutz written all over it.
The show then took an extended intermission to put up the Cage of Death, which was set up this year as a War Games cage with a scaffold set up mid ring across the Cage. A plywoood filler was put between cages (which, as you can guess, came into play later)
In Cage of Death/Dual Dimensions Match 1: Team Cash (Chris Cash, JC Bailey, Nate Webb, and IWS's Sexxy Eddy) defeated Team Blackout (Ruckus, Sabian, King, and Jack Evans). This match was worked War Games rules with wrestlers entering each minute.
It should also be added that in the "duel dimensions" match, one is eliminated by going to the floor, and win by grabbing the Tag Team Belts from atop the scaffold (which happened to be attached to Robby Mireno and Maven Bentley who wer handcuffed to the cage of Death.
The match was filled with psychotic bump after psychotic bump, most notably Jack Evans's Phoenix 630 and the backdrop off the cage courtesy of Chris Cash, which Evans took straight to the ground and into the guardrail, missing a table that appeared to have been set up to take the spot (unbelivably, Evans was seen at a local diner, calmly eating...by that point well into the AM hours...as if nothing happened. Another sick bump saw Sabian fall into the first and second row as the result of a Cashflow off of the scaffold. Yet another bizarre spot saw Sexxy Eddy hit a trash can moonsault (yes, his upper body was inside a trash can) from the top of the Cage of Death.
In Cage of Death Match 2/H*8 Club versus H*8 Club/Fans Bring the Weapons match, this became a sick, violent, blood-soaked brawl, as you'd expect. Justice Pain and Wifebeater defeated Nick Gage and Nate Hatred;when Gage turned on Nate Hatred, creating what seemed to be a H8Club trio, that is, until Gage and Pain turned on Wifebeater, finally bringing together the two real-life brothers for the first time in CZW.
The match was filled with demented concoctions, and these were the ones allowed in by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, including a rain gutter (as in the metal kind on top of your roof) with Christmas balls attached, Christmas ornaments filled with salt and thumbtacks, a full computer, a computer keyboard, a crutch, as well as sheets of auto glass.
It was suggested by more than one person that this may be a way to write out Hatred and Wifebeater; Hatred due to neck and rotator cuff problems and Wifebeater due to accumulated injuries. This remains to be seen.
