NWA Florida retuned to the historic Masquerade in Ybor City, FL with the Last Call event on Tuesday, February 22nd. Current WWE stars and former NWA World Tag Team champions Mike and Todd Shane were in attendance.
(1) In a special challenge match, Mikey Batts defeated Sedrick Strong.
These two just flat out dislike each other and were looking to soften the other up so they can have one less worry on the way to win the X Division title Saturday night. Both men started out attacking the others left arm, then going to headlocks with neither man gaining an edge until Batts hit several armdrags. After regrouping on the floor Strong came back to the ring and promptly stuck a finger in Batts’ eye but it did little to slow Batts down who hit a head scissor but an attempted headlock float over was countered by Strong into a back suplex. Strong kept on the back with kicks and forearms before setting in a surfboard type submission. Batts did not submit so Strong released the hold and went back to work but Batts slid out of a hold and hit an enziguri. Batts went to the second rope but Strong caught him and hit a Blue Thunder Driver for two and then put Batts in a chinlock then followed it with a full nelson. Batts got to his feet and hit a neckbreaker followed by a sitout DDT but got two. Strong had Batts pinned but only got two and then got in the face of the referee. Batts went for a Dudley Dog but Strong countered. Batts countered again and hit the Napoleon Complex to pin Strong.
(2) NWA Florida Tag Team champions Double Deuce defeated The Heartbreak Express (Sean and Scott Davis).
The Express petitioned the NWA Florida office and got their wish, now they have to face the champions “Uptown” Frankie Capone and Marcus Dillon. Not to anyone’s shock neither Davis could match power with Marcus Dillon, so they cheated anytime he was in the ring against them. Capone tagged in and clotheslined both Davis’ and they retreated to the floor for some personal time. Once they returned to the ring, Scott Davis entered the match and Capone took him to the mat. On a lockup, Scott backed Capone into the Express’ corner and hit him with shots to the ribs. Dillon came in and the referee sent him to his corner as the Express took Capone to the floor and hit his ribs with trash cans and bar stools. The Express made several tags using everything they could to pin Capone but he would not be beaten and he made his way to tag Dillon back in. They isolated Scott Davis which allowed Capone to hit the K5 and Dillon to hit his spear to pin Davis.
Lenny Leonard stopped the show to bring the “Black Nature Boy” Scoot Andrews to the ring for an interview. Andrews will be wrestling his last match on Saturday night. Andrews spoke about his early memories of seeing Dusty Rhodes and Sweet Brown Sugar wrestle in Jacksonville. Andrews admitted he waited until he was twenty-seven to begin his career. He said Saturday night isn’t about the match to end his career or Billy Fives and Mike Sullivan; it is about Lex Lovett defending the NWA Southern Heavyweight title and the Main Event, the Rage in the Cage. Andrews admitted his time in the ring was over and he will be spending time with his family.
(3) Erick Stevens and “Iceman” Buck Quartermain fought to a double countout.
Stevens has shed his “E Stizzle” persona to take on “the Iceman.” Stevens didn’t seem intimidated by the veteran and stood his ground even as Quartermain attacked his left arm. Stevens tried to overpower Quartermain but the Iceman used Stevens’ own momentum to hit armdrags into armbars. Stevens got to his feet and attacked Quartermain’s left arm but Quartermain went to the ropes causing a break. On a lock up Stevens took Quartermain to the mat with a fujiarwa armbar but Quartermain made it to the ropes. Stevens and Quartermain ended up on the floor and brawled around ringside until the referee reached the ten count and called for the bell. Quartermain and Stevens shook hands after the match.
(4) Aaron Epic and Kahagus defeated Kevin Devine and “Untouchable” Leon Scott.
Kahagus and Epic had control over Scott until Devine kneed Epic in the back as Epic came near his side of the ring on an Irish whip. Scott and Devine made several tags and attacked Epic’s lower back. Epic fought back and hit Devine with what looked like a fisherman buster/neckbreaker. Kahagus tagged in and hit Devine with chest chops and kicks to the back. Epic got back in the bout and went to the top but Devine cut him off and hit a superplex. Scot tagged in but his double team move with Devine ended up with Epic hitting a double floatover slop drop before tagging Kahagus back in. From there things broke down but Kahagus got the pin on Devine.
